Exchange Server 2007 Features

network | Web Services

You will need to use 64-bit x86-64 versions of Windows to use v8 or perhaps v8.1 of Exchange Server 2007. Still only 32 bits are required for the trial edition of this program. Anyway there are still several firms that keep on applying Exchange Server with thirty two-bit hardware. In order to turn to the new version of software they’ll need to change the hardware. Still that is not the single point. Due to the feature that Exchange Server 2007 doesn’t allow in-place upgrades some firms using software of 2000 or 2003 will have to upgrade to the edition of 2007.

In winter 2005 there appeared the 1st beta version of Exchange Server 2007, that was known as E12 or Exchange 12. Not too many people were to test it then. As stated in Microsoft Exchange team archives a developed beta edition appeared in March 2006. It turned available via TechNet Plus and MSDN subscriptions. The coming edition of the software was finally claimed to be named Exchange Server 2007 on April 25, 2006.

Exchange Server 2007 is one of the Innovative Communications Alliance developments. Here are the microsoft exchange server roles to be components of the program release of 2007.

1. Mailbox Role
It serves as hostails and some data open to people. The role is also meant to provide Outlook clients MAPI admission. Mailbox has its variation. To use high-availability MSCS clustering of information stored on the computer Clustered Mailbox role is used. But it is not allowed to combine any different roles on the hosting exchange server with this modification of Mailbox.

2. Client Access or CA
The role doesn’t apply MAPI, it is designed for another mailbox server protocol access. This way it’s possible for the user to access his mailbox with an Internet browser, mobile gadget and 3rd party mail client. Just like in Exchange 2003 FrontEnd server.

3. The Role of Unified Message
UM makes it also possible to use phones to list mailboxes, calendars or other things. This type of server role demands additional equipment like an IP-PBX gateway aimed to make the server role function correctly.

4. Hub Transport or HT
Hub Transport is designed to choose the destination for each e-mail. They are delivered to Edge, Mailbox or another Hub Transport servers. Exchange 2007 sorts the message flow applying AD site data, that is not like in the strategy of 2003 when admin set routing groups were applied.

5. ET (Edge Transport)
That is the 1st position for inbox and the finishing step for outgoing. Specially to turn to mail quarantine Edge Transport is actually often used in any blackberry hosting. Edge Transport can as well work even if it is not linked to any Active Directory. It provides security even with only company network.

User Interface and Server Role Features

Server role concept in fact fixes the server settings for Graphic User Interface and CMD. Each server role is designed just for its destination in Exchange 2007. Concerning Mailbox, its function is Get/Set-MailboxServer and the command to check if it is installed is IsMailboxServer. Client Access role will then have the function like Get/Set-ClientAccessServer and IsClientAccessServer. Concerning HT the function is IsHubTransportServer and Get/Set-TransportServer. And commands like IsUnifiedMessagingServer and Get/Set-UmServer are applied to UM role.
